Alfa Romeo and the Mille Miglia are two names packed with fascination and legend, both for the prestige of the Brescian race and the epic feats of the drivers and the Portello-built cars on the roads of the unforgettable Italian marathon. No other marque can boast of competing in such a large number Mille Miglias, and especially not of such a series of successful results “collected” by Alfa Romeo in the celebrated Race of the Red Arrow. Alfas were undisputed pre-war kings of the race, a period in which they won no fewer than 10 of the 13 events that took place between 1927 and 1940. And after the Second World War the 14th Mille Miglia of 1947 fell to the Alfa Romeo 8C 2900 B driven by Romano-Biondetti. Then, although missing out on the overall win, Alfa was once again a Mille Miglia protagonist in the 1957 race. To tell this long and spectacular story of road racing at its best is the authoritative pen of Andrea Curami, who relives the long and distinguished career of Alfa Rome at the Mille Miglia, all illustrated by rare archive pictures.

“A simple but fascinating story”. That is how Enzo Ferrari wrote of the Prancing Horse, the emblem of his cars, both racers and Grand Tourers. A story that became a legend is hidden behind the black horse painted on the fuselages of the fighters flown by the greatest aviator of his time, Francesco Baracca (1888-1918), who was shot down in his Spad over Montello after having destroyed 34 enemy planes. The 10th title in the successful “Racing Lives” series covers the brief, intense and adventurous existence of a protagonist of Italian aviation history through pages of highly evocative text, illustrated with rare photographs of the period, documents and memorabilia.

Born mid-way through the Sixties, the Alfa Romeo Giulia GT successfully inherited the legacy of the Giulietta Sprint. Until its presentation, the company’s top management at Arese, near Milan, also considered a version suited to racing, which could bring back glorious days gone by. The car became the GTA – the “A” for "alleggerita" or lightened – a car that immediately transformed itself into the one to beat, able to dictate the law on all the circuits of the world and win everything there was to win until the mid-Seventies.That fascinating and unrepeatable story is told by Maurizio Tabucchi, one of the leading Alfa Romeo authorities who, through a precise and thoroughly accurate text, reconstructs the technical and sporting history of this unforgettable Alfa Romeo. The book is illustrated by invaluable and often previously unpublished archive pictures.

A very important book on a often forgotten and unknown side of the Alfa Romeo’s world: the industrial and commercial vechicles production. At last the right emphasis to all trucks, buses and trolleybuses which, together with aviation engines, kept up the factory in the ’30s, were the cornerstone in the 40s and the main production until the full development of the 1900 saloon cars. A great historical research, with a contribution of an iconographic material mostly never published before.
