Members of the F1 circus and enthusiasts alike anxiously await Giorgio Piola’s annual technical analysis of Formula One. Journalist, technical commentator at the circuits of the world, contributor to numerous magazines on the subject, the author reveals all the secrets of the cars that competed for the 2004 Formula One World Championship, which saw Michael Schumacher and Ferrari take the drivers’ and constructors crowns for the fifth consecutive year. More than 300 full colour technical illustrations show the cars’ various stages of evolution during the course of the season and stems from the meticulous collation of information by Giorgio Piola throughout the sporting year. As with previous editions, each chapter of the book focuses a specific sector of development, including the sport’s new regulations, the cars’ chassis, cockpits and aerodynamics. Each team has its own chapter, analysing its cars’ technical development in even greater detail. The new edition is, once again, further enhanced by prestigious contributions from an important personality, engineer Mauro Forghieri who has written the chapter on engines.

FORMULA 1 2003/2004 ANALISI TECNICA

The publication of a book by Giorgio Piola that analyses the previous Formula One season and unveils the secrets of its cars is, by now, a tradition: 2003 is no exception. From the Ferrari F-2003 GA, which, driven by Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello, reconfirmed Maranello as world champions again, to the ever more competitive Williams-BMW – including the FW-18, which will remain a one-off prototype – and McLaren-Mercedes, to Toyota and Minardi. Illustrations – even clearer and more detailed - show the cars and their respective components: underbodies, wings, engines, steering ‘wheels’, they are all examined with unfailing accuracy. In this book, Giorgio Piola has also included an extensive section on the different teams that are gearing up to compete for the 2004 Formula One World Championship, renewing the challenge to Ferrari and its six-times world champion, Michael Schumacher.

FORMULA 1 2010-2011 ANALISI TECNICA

2010 saw the most closely fought Formula 1 World Championship for many years. Red Bull’s confirmation as one of the front rank teams, the roller coaster performance of the McLarens despite Hamilton consistent pace and the thrilling charge staged by Ferrari, which after a subdued start challenged for the title through to the bitter end with Fernando Alonso in his first season with the “Rosse”, were the ingredients for a season that drew to a close with Sebastian Vettel crowned as the youngest ever World Champion in the history of Formula 1 and the natural heir to Michael Schumacher who to general surprise had decided to suit up once again as a works Mercedes driver. The expert Giorgio Piola was again on hand to analyse the various development phases conducted by the various teams during the course of the championship, with brief but exhaustive texts accompanying hundreds of full-colour technical drawings. The book is completed with a detailed section devoted the leading cars of the 2011 season: from the new Ferrari F150 to the Mercedes-Benz WO2, the McLaren MP4/26 and the heir to the 2010 world championship-winning Red Bull RB7. The 2011 world championship will also be the one in which KERS will be used again and it sees the return of Pirelli as the sport’s official tyre supplier.

FORMULA 1 2011-2012 ANALISI TECNICA

For the second year running, the young German driver Sebastian Vettel and his Red Bull team were virtually unrivalled, claiming both the Drivers’ and the Constructors’ World Championship titles. Only Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton, both driving for McLaren, put up anything of a fight, while Fernando Alonso in the Ferrari had to settle for a single victory in the British GP at Silverstone. In technical terms, the 2011 season was characterised by the use of a mobile rear wing, the return of Kers and Pirelli as sole tyre supplier. An unmissable annual event for over 10 years, Giorgio Piola’s review returns once again with the well-known illustrator and TV commentator analysing the various phases of the technical development undertaken by the various teams during the championship, with brief but exhaustive texts complemented by hundreds of colour technical drawings. The book is completed with an extensive section devoted to the leading cars for the 2012 season.
