MILLE MIGLIA 1957 LE CLASSI MINORI/THE MINOR CLASSES - COPIA FIRMATA DALL’AUTORE! / SIGNED COPY BY THE AUTHOR!

The 24th and final edition of the Mille Miglia, held on the 11th and 12th of May 1957, has passed into history above all due to the tragic circumstances of the accident involving de Portago and Nelson’s Ferrari 335S, which crashed in the latter stages of the race near Mantua. It was however, also a race characterised by a bitter struggle amongst the Maranello marque’s drivers, a duel that never happened with Moss and Jenkinson’s Maserati 450S and the last career win for Piero Taruffi. Behind all this, there was also another story, one equally as fascinating and rich in incident, that of the crews racing in the minor classes: from the Tuned Touring and the 750 classes to the Gran Turismo and Sport 750 and 1000 categories. This previously neglected story of "little" cars and almost unknown drivers is recounted by Carlo Dolcini, a painstaking and accurate historian, who has reconstructed in engrossing detail the “minor” episodes of those days, drawing on a wealth of photographic documentation.

MILLE MIGLIA 1957 L’ULTIMO ATTO DI UNA CORSA LEGGENDARIA - COPIA FIRMATA DALL’AUTORE! / SIGNED COPY BY THE AUTHOR!

Carlo Dolcini MILLE MIGLIA 1957. Last act in a legendary race ISBN: 978-88-7911-532-2 Price: € 40,00 Size: 24.3x27 - Pages: 144 - Pictures: in b/w and colour - Hardbound - Text: Italian-English 1957: the last Mille Miglia. It was the tragedy of Cavriana, the crash of the Alfonso de Portago-Ed Nelson Ferrari 335S and the 11 bodies on the asphalt that wrote the last page in the story of this fascinating yet dangerous road race. But the 1957 marathon was the most enthralling of them all, enlivened by the contentious battle between the drivers brought together in a single team by Enzo Ferrari and that culminated in victory for Piero Taruffi, who retired from racing after winning the “most beautiful race in the world”. A race the story of which is told mile after mile in this book, using the unfolding news of the Brescia-Rome-Brescia marathon, but also the testimonies of the protagonists, behind the scenes happenings, the cars, the men and women. And extraordinary pictures, many previously unpublished. All against a backdrop of Italy in the late ‘50s and an unforgettable era of motor racing. This is the first in a series of books which will tell the stories of all the post war Mille Miglias over the next few years, ranging from the 1947 race to the tragic 1957

MILLE MIGLIA IMMAGINI DI UNA CORSA/ A RACE IN PICTURES - COPIA FIRMATA DALL’AUTORE! / SIGNED COPY BY THE AUTHOR!

For 30 years from 1927 until 1957 the real Mille Miglia was the “race of excellence”. A unique event of over 1,600 kilometres across Italy, the stars of which were some of the world’s greatest car manufacturers, among them Alfa Romeo, Mercedes-Benz, Maserati, Ferrari, Jaguar and Aston Martin. And their cars were driven, naturally, by some of the equally great champions of the time, like Tazio Nuvolari, Achille Varzi, through to Juan Manuel Fangio and Stirling Moss as well as Alberto Ascari, Clemente Biondetti, Piero Taruffi and many others. Count Giannino Marzotto won the race twice in Ferraris in 1950 and 1953 and said the Mille Miglia was “a synthesis of dynamism, freedom, challenge, courage and calculation”. The story, or better the stories, of that legendary race live again in this book, which tells the tales of the classic “Bresciana”, first of all through hundreds of pictures, most of them unpublished and coming from the Novafoto-Sorlini Archive, an important collection featuring the shots taken by the official race photographer Alberto Sorlini, between 1947 and 1957. The text has been written by Leonardo Acerbi, who also wrote “Mille Miglia Story 1927-1957”.

NUVOLARI: IL ROMBO DEL CIGNO - COPIA FIRMATA DALL’AUTORE / SIGNED COPY BY THE AUTHOR!

Many pages have been written about the evergreen Tazio Nuvolari and his legend. But until now there has been no book that looks specifically at the final years of the Flying Mantuan’s victorious and dramatic career. In 1947 and 1948, he was the undisputed king of the Mille Miglia, driving a Cisitalia and a Ferrari. By this time physically and morally tormented by the premature death of his two young sons, the old champion was still able to impose his unquestioned class on two memorable races. This riveting episode in the history of motor racing is told in a book by Mario Donnini, renowned motor racing journalist, who restored to its original splendour the bonnet lost by Nuvolari during the 1948 Mille Miglia after its successful recovery. This important reanimation was the pretext on the basis of which to tell of these epic deeds during those races through a thrilling text, numerous photographs and documents of the period.

SCUDERIA MEDIOLANUM: TRA MEMORIA E PRESENTE - COPIA FIRMATA DALL’AUTORE! / SIGNED COPY BY THE AUTHOR!

The story of Mediolanum is, without doubt, one of motor racing in other times. Of a Milan scuderia founded in 1955 and energised by the enthusiasm of partners from a number of Lombardy motor clubs, among them the Ambrosiana and the Madunina. This book paints a picture of large and small teams, who raced on roads and circuits every Sunday. They entered promising young drivers as well as established champions at the wheel of simple but tuned cars, grand tourers and sports cars: Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprints, TZs and TZ2s, the Porsche 356 and Ferrari 250 GTO/64 and 250 LM – Mediolanum raced them all. The first section of the book contains fascinatingly rare photographs, supported by testimony from publications of the period and the recollections of the protagonists. The second is devoted to the activities of “Mediolanum Storica”, which still races the same fabulous evergreen cars today - cars that are immortalised in this publication’s spectacular colour pictures.

ALFA ROMEO GIULIA - COPIA FIRMATA DALL’AUTORE! / SIGNED COPY BY THE AUTHOR!

Even today, to many people the Alfa Romeo Giulia is synonymous with Alfa itself. It was certainly a legendary car and a fundamental one to the brand. It first appeared as the heir to the apparently irreplaceable Giulietta, but it was able to repeat its predecessor’s success, turning the motoring world into turmoil. From comments in the press on the eve of the new car’s presentation in 1962, the word that recurred more than any other was “originality”: a new design that was at first controversial and later loved unreservedly, new technological developments and higher performance. And the Arese factory at which it was built was also new. The Giulia dominated the market until 1977, but even after that it never left the hearts of enthusiasts. The car’s history, the versions, its motor sport career and pictures of an epoch are all between the covers of this book. As is a “small guide” for those who acquire now or are “returning” to this great Alfa Romeo.
