After “Trattori Testacalda Italiani” or “Hot-headed Italian Tractors”, William Dozza offers “Classic Italian Tractors”, the first book to look at Italian agricultural tractor production in a systematic way, from their origins in around 1911 to the end of 1955. With the classification of the various models that made their appearance during that period, no less than 77 different manufacturers came to light. This book gives the main technical progression of these machines and the principal companies that made them. For each tractor presented in this publication, which is illustrated with rare vintage pictures and fascinating contemporary photography, the book offers technical characteristics, the number of vehicles built and their sale price in the marketplace of the period.

After the great success of “Classical Italian Tractors”, William Dozza has now written the long awaited “The documents”, in which he presents a collection of reproductions, in natural dimensions, of the illustrative material published by the manufacturers to inform the public of their machines: brochures, catalogues, sketches, advertising material and much more. The book illustrates the activities of 36 manufacturers and shows hundreds of models of a period that ranges from the origin of the machines, in around 1910, until 1960, and for some tractors, those with a special historical or technical value, extending even further down the years. The original material, which is rare and often previously unpublished, is the result of 20 years of research conducted in both Italy and other countries. A unique work, devoted to historians, collectors and enthusiasts of agricultural machines, but also to those who are simply curious about them.

This monograph – the first in Italy on the subject – features not only the classic grain threshers, but also all those that separate ears from stalks. The result of 15 years’ research, the book also focuses on all the machines that combine with threshers: presses, bale elevators, grabbers and others. The history of each constructor is given and their production examined, all illustrated with detailed tables concerning the technical characteristics of the models produced.

There are names that alone express concepts, lifestyles and philosophies better than any lengthy explanation. That Abarth is one of these is a conviction by no means restricted to expert writers or specialist journalists. In the case of Abarth, perceived by enthusiasts as a synonym of performance, speed, agility and emotions, confirmation has been provided by the Fiat Group’s extensive research ahead of the major relaunch of the Scorpion marque. Given the current situation, with the new Abarths returning to the road ready to “sting”, it is an ideal time for this book that sets out to reconstruct the story that led to the birth of a legend. Subdivided model by model, the text is based on straightforward, effective descriptions, backed up by contemporary photos in black and white and colour. The author has successfully illustrated the motivations that led Carlo Abarth to create something unique in the automotive world, at the cost of sacrifices, failures and disappointments such as the numerous custom models built in the early years. A story of cars capable of sparking great passions.

This is the most complete book ever published on the golden age of the scooter. The first part, focuses on the 1910s and ‘20s a, a period in which this vehicle was little more than a child-like scooter with an engine and was offered as an alternative to the bicycle, with a motor attached to it. Great progress was also made in the ‘50s and ‘60s, the golden age of the scooter, the book giving an overview of the second post war period and the importance of the scooter at that time as an individual means of transport. In addition, special attention has been paid to scooter production in the most important countries, especially the happenings in Italy, France, Germany Great Britain, the United States and Japan, whose more significant brands are exhaustively studied and richly illustrated. The book closes with “The Catalogue”, a broad, all-encompassing look at all the most significant models, sub-divided by nation, with illustrated specifications complete with technical data.A unique publication for scooter lovers and for all enthusiasts who have the “little wheels” in their heart.

Here is the compelling story of Valentino Rossi, arguably the greatest motorcycle racer ever – certainly the most entertaining. The cheeky-faced Italian, who has a massive fan base outside the sport as well as within motorcycle racing, is being hailed as a sublime talent. Aged 23, he has conquered the 4 Grand Prix World Championship titles in just six seasons, winning the 125 crown in 1997, the 250 crown in 1999, and the 500 title 2001 and the very last 2002 Moto GP World Championship. All that speed and, against the morass of anti-personality stars that prevail today, he’s just so cool.

One of the most successful titles of the “Racing Lives” series was devoted to Tazio Nuvolari in 2003, the 50th anniversary of the death of the “Flying Mantuan”. Now, the 12th volume in the series is a new biography of Achille Varzi, the driver who was one of Nuvolari’s proudest antagonists and certainly the one who, with Tazio, divided the Italians into two factions of unyielding passion. It is no coincidence that this book makes reference in its title to both of these unforgettable motor racing personalities of the sport’s golden age between the two world wars of the 20th century: Varzi: The dark shadow of Nuvolari. The text resumes that of another little best seller published by Giorgio Nada Editore, Una Curva Cieca, also by Giorgio Terruzzi, which appeared in 1991 and is now in a much more extensive version with over 200 photographs and a vast array of documentation. The project and editing of the work is once more by Gianni Cancellieri, while the preface has been written by his traditional partner, Cesare De Agostini.

This book is the result of Francesco Santovetti’s expertise in cars: he was a protagonist of the car world in Rome in the Fifties and attentive collector of vintage cars. Santovetti has written an account full of passion for this “classical” car and bike race that took place from 1921 to 1966 in Central Italy. The race was partaken by cars from all over Europe, and by drivers such as as Nuvolari, Biondetti , Borzacchi, Fagioli, Lurani, Marzotto, Soldini or Taruffi. All pictures (more than250) are originals from that time and they are presented with fully explanatory texts.

Many enthusiasts – especially the younger ones – are convinced that motor racing’s story only goes back, more or less, to 1950 and the beginning of the Formula One World Championship. For them, Luigi Villoresi (1909-1997) is almost a nobody. But the motor racing career of Italy’s “National Gigi” as his country affectionately dubbed him, spans three decades, from the 1931 Coppa Invernale delle Alpi to the 1958 Acropolis Rally. They are just two of an impressive list of prestigious victories won by this great driver in road racing and on the circuits of Europe, Africa and South America. The ability of an authentic champion, generous and versatile like few others, came out in every branch of the sport in which Villoresi competed, from the Mille Miglia to the Giro di Sicilia, from the Targa Florio to the period’s track races. It is, therefore, about time a biography was devoted to him, with the reconstruction of his long, but not always happy, sporting and human existence. The book’s author, interviewed Villoresi many times – the last occasion was a few months before the driver died – and has conducted an exhaustive investigation into his personal archives.

VITE DI CORSA Incontri in pista con piloti, manager, astronauti, cantanti, gente strana - COPIA FIRMATA DALL’AUTORE! / SIGNED COPY BY THE AUTHOR!

Why Vite di corsa (racing lives)? Because this book is not a novel but a rather serious narrative of meetings, many of them taking place within or through the motor racing environment, where the stars are “transient” as they speed across the most diverse of years. Captains of industry, racing drivers, managers, designers, musicians, even an astronaut and a footballer are among the most famous people the author has met during F1 Grand Prix days. He has delved deeply into a number of such people, others less so, but he has always received a powerful impact that has generated highly personal sensations and considerations. So here is a wide-ranging selection of great names seen up close, as rarely happens, with all their strength, charisma and weaknesses. A picture of a special world, exclusive, sometimes able to transmit unexpected sentiments. The people the author has selected as the stars of this book are: Gianni Agnelli, Giovannino Agnelli, Jean Alesi, Mario Andretti, Flavio Briatore, Mario e Vittorio Cecchi Gori, Pete Conrad, Gian Paolo Dallara, Bernie Ecclestone, Enzo Ferrari, Mauro Forghieri, Lewis Hamilton, George Harrison, James Hunt, Niki Lauda, Joe Macaluso, Diego Armando Maradona, Sergio Marchionne, Carlos Menem, Sandro Munari, Alessandro Onassis, Clay Regazzoni, Cesare Romiti, Ayrton Senna, Sebastian Vettel, Gilles Villeneuve and Jacques Villeneuve

Now in its 21st year, Wrooom is an inescapable date with which the Ferrari team and, for a number of years, Ducati, were the ones to open the racing year. Before becoming involved with strategies, asphalt, technicians, team personnel and drivers, they challenged the snow and ice in the unequalled scenario of Madonna di Campiglio. In 2010, Vroom also became a summer rendezvous, so this new book is about both events.
The indisputable stars of this year were Fernando Alonso and Valentino Rossi who, in a lively verbal sparring match and talking of their experiences at Wrooom, re-live their respective seasons. And all packed with spectacular pictures by that maestro of the lens, Ercole Colombo.
