ON THE OCCASION OF THE 40° ANNIVERSARY
For some it was the last true Alfa Romeo and certainly the last mass-produced rear-wheel drive car. For this reason alone it deserves to be appreciated, sought after and loved by the Alfisti of yesterday and today. In 1985, the name ‘75’ was created to celebrate the marque’s 75th anniversary, and yet, shortly after its birth, this car would be caught up in the great crisis and the passage into the Fiat orbit.
However, the Alfa 75 was also the culmination of an engineering philosophy – that of the transaxle – that had started with the Alfetta and was finally coming of age. A prestigious, complex and sophisticated approach that perhaps flies in the face of the concept of containing production coss, but is certainly capable of enhancing the “driving experience”.
The debut of the legendary Twin Spark was to follow and the time was to come when turbocharging could be said to “deserve an Alfa Romeo”.
The new edition of this book, which first appeared over 10 years ago, appears in the year in which the 75 celebrates its 40th anniversary, and has been enriched with new texts and photographs.
