In 1976 he started, after a period of pure amateurism in the motorsport area, together with his brother Giuliano, what has been his long competitive path, studded with many victories (21) both in the national and European field (legendary the victory in 1980 in Montecarlo), which made him famous for his behaviour and his technical skill at the wheel.
An exceptional driver, capable of becoming Italian and European Alfasud Champion in 1978, European Renault 5 Champion in 1979 and European Alfasprint Champion in 1983.
