In the Fifties, many motorcycle manufacturers like Piaggio, MV Agusta and Morini joined famous brands in the marketplace such as Motor Guzzi and Gilera. Rumi earned itself a prominent position among the newcomers. From the moment its earliest bikes first appeared, the Italian factory distinguished itself for the refinement and quality of its machines. Rumi climbed to the absolute summit in the 125 category, with its Gobbetto, Scoiattolo and junior 125 touring and sports models as well as in racing, especially in regularity events. Riccardo Crippa, who promotes the Rumi Historic Register, recounts the long and detailed story of the manufacturer with the help of over 300 pictures in colour and black and white, technical drawings and a complete list of all the models, each fully described by an exhaustive technical specification.

The origins of Gilera in the motorcycle world go back to 1909, 100 years ago, when Giuseppe Gilera established this brand destined to leave a profound mark on motorcycling history, and not only that of Italy. The remarkable entrepreneurial ability of Gilera enabled the Arcore company to achieve great notoriety, both in the area of production bikes and in racing even before the Second World War, with two victories in the international 6 Days of regularity as well as success in the European Championship for speed. The sports commitment of the company remained a constant in subsequent decades until the Nineties. After a century, Gilera is now writing yet another chapter in its fascinating history in the field of scooters. The industrial and sports history, but above all a systematic catalogue of all the models constructed by Gilera since 1909 to the present day, constitute the fundamental parts of this work, destined to become an authentic point of reference for all motorcycle enthusiasts, those of Gilera in particular.

The Federazione Motociclistica Italiana is an organisation that was established 100 years ago in 1911. The important anniversary of this great federation, which today embraces the entire motorcycling world on both the sports and touring fronts as well as vintage bikes, is the right occasion on which to tell the story of the first century of the Italian motorcycle in a great book, which includes:
- a long and extraordinary history told by some of the great sports journalists.
- over 350 new pictures in both black and white and colour from the archives of the Italian motorcycle manufacturers.
- the 10 most beautiful Italian motorcycles photographed on special sets especially for the centenary.
- a century of racing in all the various disciplines of the many-sided world of two-wheel competition.
- a century of the Italian motorcycle’s technical development.
- a systematic cataloguing of the 100 motorcycles that best represent a century of two-wheel history.
This is a unique and prestigious volume which has never previously been penned by a number of writers, one which is richly illustrated and tells the story of a century of sport, of motorcycles, riders and men: in a word a history to which the Federation has given and continues to give its fundamental support.
